The Singapore town of Serangoon which can be found in the North–Eastern Region of Singapore, is one of the 55 Planning Areas that exist in the countries 5 different regions. The Singapore authority responsible for the divisions of the areas is the “Urban Redevelopment Authority”. The different areas are demarcated for urban planning and township development. The new towns in Singapore are designed to be modern and self –sufficient units of development.

Serangoon is one of the towns that was planned to be independent. The town is well planned with a central area, housing developments for the public and all modern amenities. Transportation Modes at Serangoon Central

The town has a long history dating back to the 19th century, Tamil Indian traders used to come to Serangoon following the Serangoon Road to the Serangoon river. The word Serangoon according to many people refer to a small bird that was found in the marshes .This bird was called burrong ranggong which occurred commonly in the swamps, surrounding the Serangoon river.

There is also adequate modes of transportation in Serangoon with a bus interchange and numerous railway stations on the North East MRT Line which also runs in the district.

In summary we can say that Serangoon offers its citizens a good quality of life in which people from all its different cultural groups can live in peace and harmony with each other.
